Teachers completing questionnaires about pupils
As well as asking young people about their emotional health, well-being and behaviour, we would like to get the perspectives of the teachers who know them well
What does participating in this part of the project mean?
Teachers who take part in this part of the project will be asked to complete two questionnaires about each participating pupil. We will gather this data at four data collection time points.
Guidelines for completing and teacher selection
On each occasion, we will ask the school to decide who is the most appropriate teacher to complete the questionnaires for each child. For example, the teacher who knows each pupil best. These questionnaires are completed by logging into an online data collection system. The questionnaires we are asking teachers to complete are the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) and the Behaviour Rating Inventory of Executive Function, Second Edition, Teacher Report (BRIEF 2). Each questionnaire takes between 5-10 minutes to complete.
SDQ –This questionnaire asks for the teachers perspective about a pupil’s behaviours including how they have been feeling emotionally, how they have been getting on with others as well as their concentration and activity levels. The SDQ also asks whether the young person has any difficulties in these areas and, if so, how much these difficulties may bother them.
BRIEF 2 –This questionnaire explores the executive functioning of pupils in the school environment and asks teachers to rate the prevalence of certain behaviours in the last 6 months including those associated with emotional control, working memory and planning and organisation, amongst others.
Further information for these teachers can be found in the Information Sheet for Teachers Completing Questionnaires about Pupils.
